SEAQUAL INITIATIVE: When Material Changes Its Story

Some materials carry a memory with them. Sometimes it comes from the fiber, the hand, the color. Other times, it begins farther away: with a material that has been collected, selected, transformed, and made ready to enter a new textile narrative.

This is where the encounter between Lanerossi and SEAQUAL INITIATIVE begins. SEAQUAL INITIATIVE is an international community that works with marine litter collection programs and with a dedicated supply chain that transforms recovered plastic into new materials for the textile industry.seaqual

The journey starts in aquatic environments: seas, beaches, rivers, and estuaries. The collected materials are separated and selected; the plastic suitable for recycling is transformed into SEAQUAL MARINE PLASTIC and then used to create SEAQUAL YARN, a yarn made from recovered marine plastic.

For Lanerossi, this collaboration is not only a choice of material, but an act of design. It means observing a material as it changes, understanding its potential, and bringing it into the language of home textiles.

From this research comes Ocean, the Lanerossi throw made with SEAQUAL YARN and recycled wool. A soft, essential, contemporary surface, designed to accompany the living room and bedroom with a discreet presence made of comfort, texture, and color.

Ocean tells the story of a transition from recovered material to everyday object. The yarn made from recovered marine plastic meets recycled wool, giving life to a throw that does not seek an overt statement, but works through perceived quality: the hand, the weight, the feeling of warmth, and the way the fabric enters the domestic space.

Within the SEAQUAL INITIATIVE project, material traceability is a central part of the story. According to SEAQUAL, the process involves collection programs, local communities, and specialized industrial partners, with the aim of transforming part of the recovered plastic into new textile materials.

To talk about Ocean is to talk about transformation without oversimplifying. It is not a definitive answer to the problem of plastic pollution, nor is it a zero-impact product. Rather, it is an example of how research into materials can open new possibilities in home textiles, giving new value to a recovered component.

In this balance between material, design, and everyday use, Ocean interprets the throw as something more than a decorative complement. It is a textile presence that brings a different story into the home: not shouted, but legible in the material itself.
